balance breaking oversight

0. short description

Using "Wailing Arrows" and the runes "The Black Cloud" and "Spirited Advance" results in an ability where one use deals damage that one-shots most blue packs while the aoe covers most of the screen. The cooldown can be reduced to <2 sec so it is exceptional for clearing packs and bossing at the same time.

I am playing story on normal and this combo is absurd with little investment.

1. The individual mechanics

Wailing arrows creates a small circle where arrows land over time. It has a high damage per cast.

With the black cloud the damage is dealt instantly, but the aoe is still very small.

With only spirited advance the ability covers a huge area, but damage is only dealt in a small strip.

2. The runes together

Using the runes together results in an ability that takes the gigantic area from spirited advance and applies the whole potential damage to every point in its aoe. Since the "damage is dealt in a small strip" part does not carry over at all it deals way too much damage.

3. possible Solutions

  1. Make these 2 runes exclusive. They are both good runes that happen to break the game when used together. However i don't know if it is possible to make runes exclusive so i make more suggestions
  2. Reduce the damage when both are picked by a factor of 5. Something along this line would make the combination balanced, however i am very certain this can't be implemented nicely, so i instead suggest...
  3. Change spirited advance such that the strip does not travel forwards smoothly, but has 5 sequential zones and the arrows land in these zones succesivly. If it is implemented like this one can implement the black cloud rune to only deal the damage of each zone instantly, thus effectivly reducing the damage by a factor of 5. This definitly makes the spirited advance rune in itself less apealing, however this is a very clean way to nerf the combination.
  4. The only other way i can see is straight up change the mechanic of one of the runes drastically (pretty much remove the old rune). If they stay somewhat the same i don't see a balanced state.


    I hope this is changed soon, i would be very satisfied with suggestion 1 or 3.
