Feedback after playing and beating Act 1
Here's my feedback as a fellow game designer who has an active passion for ARPGs.
-Poison early game is too powerful on the svriir
-flying svriir that shoot poison can do so too often this in combination with the above make fighting these enemies early game very challenging if not unfair. Particularly when you come across a group of 3 "elite" versions of them together.
-Force shield is far better than resisitances and the cooldown for it's recharge rate should be increased as it is too easy to abuse.
-More attacks should deal pure health damage like poison does to make resistances more attractive, especially if they act as armour, reducing or blocking damage.
-Resistances are unclear, it is not obvious what an item that give +10 all resistances does and since I've only come across items that give all resistance bonuses why have different resistances?
-It's unclear as to why pistols exist, but rifles don't, in particular we witness cool weaponry used by Edrik and others, but never come across neat ideas like a gun blade as used by Edrik in the final fight.
-The player receives so many attribute points that it doesn't register how and what they do, their significance is undermined. Restricting this to smaller numbers with greater effects such as offering the player 2-3 points instead of 10, will resound with the player much more.
-I feel through the floor and clipped through the environment many many times or dodged off the map, which caused me to force restart the game. This is very frustrating.
-Wings of ishmir/javelin ability both causes and helps rescue the player from being clipped into the environment.
-Instead of finding abilities/skills/spells on the ground it would resound more with the player if they either purchased abilities alone or unlocked them through the perk tree.
-It was unclear how to use the second potion slot via keyboard command, thereby requiring me to manually click on the potion to activate it. It would be much better if this acted like a sequence of potions that activate one after the other or that each slot has a unique button command.
-The inventory should have an auto sort button, this is a must.
-It doesn't make sense why items either take up only one slot or two slots in your inventory, there should be items that take up larger sections of the your inventory as currently the vast majority of items take up the same space, which begs the question of why the inventory system is laid out as such and not as a set number of items your character can carry.
-You can also carry an absurd amount of stuff, maybe linking inventory space to a stat or having items take up more room.
-There is no filter for items that drop randomly, either remove common gear or make gear scale with you so that even common gear can have a higher tier. IE: common gear tier 1, vs common gear tier 2, tier 2 gear is always better than tier 1 gear. This would keep commons relevant to the player throughout their journey instead of ignoring them outright.
-The story so far doesn't quite make a good amount of sense, it should be clearer why your character chooses to disobey Heimlock/the republic and betray them. It would have made more sense if the during the final sequence with the spectral robot character explaining that what awakened in you is a primordial/being chosen of a primordial or something along those lines.
-At the beginning you don't get to experience your awesome powers and it is unclear when and why they activate. There is no reason as to why you wouldn't turn into an angel to fight Yudai later in the game. Especially since he is suppose to be very powerful.
-The voice acting is inconsistent accent wise on many of the characters in the storm city.
-It doesn't make sense that the people of stormhaven would use land troops when they have such amazing powerful weaponry as showed early in the game. Why would they need land troops or conscripts at all.
-The lack of back bone to the refuges doesn't add up as in a time of war people would rally to protect their homes/potential home. Especially since it's a war against demons.
-The protagonist is very sassy in an unlikeable way essentially making him an asshole instead of a witty character that looks down on everyone around him.
-It's unclear why you go fight the svriir early on instead of getting into stormhaven and visiting the inn right away and it isn't explained how Val gets into the city without signing up as a conscript. Maybe having Val join you as a comrade and fellow conscripts up to the burning one would help OR having the inn sequence happen BEFORE the svriir invasion. There's just a lot of plot holes.
Hopefully all of this is helpful, I'd love to know what you think of this!
