Server maintenance

Official post on Twitter:
"Status update: The server maintenance is extended until 5PM UTC. The characters, stashes, and endgame online will be restored as they were prior to server shutdown and we will add safeguards to avoid such issues to happen again. Thank you for your understanding."
PS: Things like this should be posted on your own forums also not only on social media !

5pm UTC is about 9 more hours from now. I'm not sure when they went down but that doesn't loot real good right after launch to have to be down this long. Completely agree, all communications really should be done in their own forums FIRST, then posted other places.

This is a bit sad, i rather had the launch date delayed more, than having to go through all this server down thing + a game with plenty of bugs and optimization issues.

Same, it was my plan for the saturday now i'm just sittin on the pc wasting my time, i guess i'll play D3 :D

You could just start an offline character, played through the campaign yesterday without serious issues.

Created: 4 years, 2 months ago

Server delays happen and issues happen when the devs aren't expecting the reaction to release. Everquest had issues for days when it released. I am noticing a lot of people complaining that do not have a A or B on their avatar. If more of you had purchased the game early maybe they would have expected the influx of players. Give them time. Do something else.

Offline characters cannot be played online with your friends or other people, so playing offline is effectively a waste of time. The inability of using them online is right, since a local character could be modified with cheat engine and such.
In my humble opinion offline mode makes no sense and should be scrapped entirely.

ok first of all you talk about everquest who s release date was 1999 hello we re in 2020 what s your point. For me the problem is that they don t took enough time you have to be prepared when you hype things like that now we have no comunication and we re here with just "you have to wait fckin 8 hrs to play and it s not sure " what a joke

Created: 4 years, 2 months ago

Realistically this is a joke... No communication or announcement on the site, game has supposedly been live for days.

As for "launching a game is difficult..." Its not different than launching any other IT Service.

If you cannot facilitate the launch of a title or a service over a certain number - don't sell more than that number!

Availability and Capacity Management

The purpose of Capacity and Availability Management is to ensure effective service system performance and ensure that resources are provided and used effectively to support service requirements.

The period. Use it. It is your friend. Especially if you want to make a point and not sound like a rambling lunatic.
Yes, EQ was in 1999 and it is 2020. That does not change the comparison that I was making. A company that was basing their release sales based on pre-release purchases and making server decisions based on that data. Or do you think that in 2020 devs have some magic wand that they got at Hogwarts that can determine future sales?
I understand your frustration, some of us have been waiting for the release for a long time. But I am also not some entitled little child crying that I got a new toy and my parents didn't realize it needed C batteries to be purchased separately.
Maybe you could use the down time to grab yourself a dictionary and teach yourself how to spell or use proper grammar. Reading your post it seems a better use of your time.

EDIT:
@slooby. I agree with you that they should spend more time communicating with their audience.

I have to say, this launch disappoints me more and more. Mostly because of the very poor communications. How hard is it to maintain an updated thread with short, to the point information so whoever goes on the forums will know right away what is going on.

I do not find that to be too much to ask. Posting on Social Media and not Forums really makes want to downrate this game (even though I very much enjoy the game!)

Well mate you're wrong in one thing. If you do sponsored content with many of the biggest influencers in the RPG world, then you SHOULD expect this kind of turn out. I am in the game industry myself and having Rhykker, Force Gaming etc do sponsored posts both before and during release will almost guarantee you a decent amount of sales.

So what's going on here is really not ok, they should absolutely have planned and prepared for this. 68.000 players isn't even that much considering what I wrote above. So yes, this is their own fault.

Also, whatever you have prepared for or not, communicating updates regularly and in official channels is independent, so again their own fault for not doing well.

I agree with you on the communication. As to sales, eh. I think that they should have had a plan B in place just in case, but none of us knows what is happening behind the scenes to cause the server issues. It is all speculation and emotion.

This is just outright BS complete BS .
From what i've understand the servers been down for atleast 12 hours already and they aint coming back until 5pm UTC WTF that's another 5 hours.
I do understand that it have to be a MAJOR issue but its still unacceptable , the game havent even been out for more then 48 hours or so and the down time is almost 50% .

No offense but I don't envy your life if you have nothing else to do than wait for the game and sit idle...

I think the issue here is the PATTERN of bad releases, not just from this company, but from most. Simply because we can quickly deploy patches, we sacrifice launch quality. If this thing was sent out on a disc, it better be damn near perfect before shipping.

The new mentality now is "Well it mostly works, distribute it now, we can patch later" and I think this mentality should disturb most gamers.

you two need to stop turning this into some Blizzard forums....

the issue isn't the servers working. there hasn't been an online game launch in the history if the universe that went smoothly. the issue isn't the servers not working, it's the blatant lack of communication from the devs. there is no reason to not let the community know what is going on or when things are going to be working (an estimate at least). There is an in game news feed and forums that should be utilized, Twitter isn't an appropriate platform as the sole distribution of news.

The server maintenance is still ongoing and we want to make sure that everything works properly and is back to normal. The maintenance is extended and we will keep you informed as soon as we have an ETA to share with you. Thank you for your understanding.
