Beta Feedback

Hi team,

I'd like to start by saying thanks for the amazing game that you're creating. I've been playing the beta for about 30 hours (according to steam) and I'd like to report my findings on the experience thus far: I've started by stating my system specs as you might find it usefull, or not...

System Specs: (Mid range gaming rig)
CPU: Intel Core i5 6600 3.3Ghz
RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengence DDR4, 2166Mhz RAM (2 x 8GB)
GPU: Asus R9 290, 3GB, 256bit GPU
OS: Win 10 Pro x64
SSD: Samsung 850 Pro 500GB - game runs on this.

Findings:

  • Loading takes quite some time. This is true for getting into the game but also to load any of my characters. Also, once the character loads onto the starting town it takes at least 5 to 8 seconds before everything is rendered propper. This is also true for when I enter maps. I've tried various graphic configurations, from low with everything that can be disabled @ 100+ fps average to ultra with like 22fps average.

  • Movement feels okay but a little buggy. There are times that my character will walk against an "invisible" barrier and I'll have to use an ability such as the leap or teleport to get out of it. The dodge rolls work well on the plus side.

  • Balance is a little off at the moment. I've been running solo up to this point and i've created 3 characters focused at the 3 different "starting" classes. Melee, ranged and magic. The skills focused on the melee class are nice. They help with damage and toughness and the balance here is good. As is stands, the magic class feels pretty powerful - as it should, but not powerful enough. There are random times that melee characters can one shot me at full hp with quite a nice force field at lvl 20. This is with more than 85% superior quality gear with some epics (pink) and legendaries (oragne). the ranged class is weak. I'm still struggeling to find a buid that can run comfortably at lvl 20. Most of the passive skills on the ranged section are aimed at doing as much damage as far away as possible but most monsters in the game are able to get to you very quickly and also consistently. I tried switching things up to the assassin passive tree but that turned out even worse. I realise that there might be better gear to get to become more powerful and there's probably a lot more to say about each damage type and the passives linked to them etc. but this is just an opinion based on my experience, nothing more.

  • Items and Gear. Items that drop only show for a short while before you have to press alt to "un-hide" them again. I'd recommend at least 3 seconds, possibly 5. There's no way of knowing which items are 2-handed at the moment. Other than this I'm happy. The beams associated with legendaries and epics are nice. The graphic style of the gear and weapons are great and unique and the drop rates are also satisfactory.

  • Skills: I feel a bit trapped with the skills as most of them are dependent on specific weapon types. This game seems to be designed in such a way that players are not forced to play a specific class or damage type, but the current state of the game tells a different story. There is some freedom but I think there should be a little more. I must add that I do like that some damage type specific epics allow you to use abilities that you otherwise can't unless you wear an item that does not support your stats or attributes in the least bit. Using teleport or freeze requires a magic weapon or off-hand. Equiping say a magic off-hand on a melee character means equiping an item that has attributes focused toward magic and not melee and therefore means less damage and less toughness. So basically you need to sacrifice dps and toughness for a skill. I think future patches or versions of the game should include more items that have "powers" which allow you to use skills from other damage types, but this still puts a limitation on the "freedom" of hybrid builds. All this said, there current sytems in place that aid in the "flexibility" of damage types are far better than any other ARPG that i've played in this genre so please keep it up.

That's all for now. Thanks again for the amazing work thus far. I enjoyed the 1st act in the story mode. A little on the short side though, hoping there's more than 3 to 4 acts or that the acts to follow will be longer. The End-Game mode, "Soldier of fortune" is also fun. I like the dungeon setup in place. Really hopeful for something like a armory in the final game where we can save builds and easily switch to them.

Hello DragonFly,

Thanks a lot for these feedbacks, we are already working on improving most of the point you mentionned, specially on loading times, balancing and item drops/icons.

About variety for character building this is a strong focus for us.

New skills and ways to override some skill limitation are coming, so it will not be an issue once we fully release the game! You should see some improvement in the next patch too!
