It seems like there should be a 1 Handed magic weapon type like Wand or 1 Handed staffs. Right now the only option for mage seems to be 2 handed staff or an offhand and non mage 1 Handed. Might help with some build variations if wand + shield or wand + source.

catalysts seem rather pointless for now as any other weapon you use just ramps up rage and you're then screwed.
