Nerfs to occult damage skills?

Hello fellow gamers,

Has anyone else noticed a massive nerf to the dps of their occult mage/ailment stacking (non bleeding edge) build? Whereas before I could manage lvl 157 expeditions at lvl76 now it seems my dps has fallen to about 1/4(possibly lower) of what it used to be before the patch.

These abilities (light bringer, anomaly, infinity blades )seem to have been either massively nerfed or the patch has caused some of the skills in the passive tree to stop working properly. I have also noticed that the damage that is repeated when the enemey is in stasis (with the talent) is actually lower than the initial hit rather than being increased by 20%. Before the patch I could reach up to 1 million dps If I blew all my cds and abilities provided I could stand still and dps but now it feels as if I can't even do 200k.

Packs of enemies that died in just a few seconds now seem to take forever while high hp boss with regen are impossible. My build has gone from being fairly decent to trash-tier overnight. Mind you, it was a build of my own making which I had been playing for the past couple of weeks. At this point I can't be bothered to start over and I doubt that there are many specs that are viable.

So, has anybody else encountered a similar problem with their ailment/occult build?

Cheers

Yup, instead of leveling things out and nerfing BE and making things similar across the board they just made everything trash. GG Wolcen

was all builds with ailement who got nerfed, bow ...occult ... etc... all builds right now is useless, before people could do 189 maps but now its impossible when its like impossible to do 150 maps anymore, bosses deal huge more dmg and everything is hard to kill... this patch failed all builds not only BE build

since ailement builds was the only way to be able to compete in endgame they made it impossible to do endgame contest...

since everysingel build is nerfed badly or compleatly thrash, they rly gotta rework the skills since right now its maybe 1 or 2 skill who useful of all who does exist.

thing is why would u be able to do 189s?

when you play diablo 3 do you solo clear tier 150 greater rifts with all your builds in all the seasons? I know you dont because most seasons no one in the entire server clears a tier 150 solo with most classes. Ive sat in the top 100 on the leaderboards with a necromancer for having cleared something like a tier 108 in some seasons, the tiers go to 150 but its not there because youre supposed to do it, its there to make sure theres at least 1 more than you can do.

I just cleared 3 floors of a 151 fairly easily with an anomaly + annihilation ailment build. it doesnt feel like a lost dps, it probably increased because im using the the ailments crit node now? i dunno about the stasis node, i have it but i guess i should go and check now whats up with that, havent tested what the damage tick is since the patch.

i dunno, im testing it and it seems to be doing roughly the right amount of damage for me. kind of hard cause i have to use a white weapon basically so that stuff doesnt die too quickly, but im hitting them with a white pistol for a little over 2000 damage when i dont crit and the ticks from time which cannot heal are coming in around 2200-2400 which would seem about right?

it sounds like somethings gone wrong with the build, some kind of node somewhere isnt right. that stasis tick never crit before right? it always ticks like a non crit even on crit. are you a crit build? did u lose a lot of crit multiplier from the patch?

I've been wondering the same thing because I am using a ranged/arrow (non-crit) ailment build with Which Time Cannot Heal. After the patch yesterday I am struggling to do lvl 85 expeditions and I was doing lvl 100 ones at a moderate pace before the patch.

Not sure what's going on and it seems impossible to test the bonus dmg of WTCH when you have multiple ailments (or even one) ticking constantly.

I might try switching to a crit build and testing it like you did above, but I rather use ailments, especially after the crit nerfs this patch. Just don't understand why I'm having a harder time in expeditions now.

In a thread I made about my ranged/ailmet build using Which Time Cannot Heal, someone replied and told me that before the patch that passive was doing incremental damage multiple times in a row? I was not even aware of this if that is true. If it is, then I guess the fix they did to it this patch explains why builds using WTCH have gone down.

Well if this is the case I don't really how we are supposed to scale dmg in this game especially if you are a caster. There are only so many dps boost nodes you can get from the passive tree. In my case, being lvl76 even with an additional 24 points to spend at lvl 100 I see no way to boost my dps to a level I could kill bosses in the 50-150 million hp range when they have regen. At this point why even bother.

To the person who compared Wolcen to Diablo III I would say that it's lilke comparing apples to oranges. In Diablo you reach max level and unlock all skill runes in just a few days of playing casually and you can scale your dmg by getting both better weapons and armor regardless of class. Not to mention the fact that there are sets and uniques that can alter how a spec plays dramatically. In Wolcen the only weapons that do decent damage are melee. Bows and staves are terrible and spell scaling is laughable. All you have to do is read the tooltip damage for spells and then measure them up against the healthpool of elites and bosses to know that something is not quite right.

I think another problem this game has, other than broken skills, is the fact that there is very little information on how skills work and synergise together because the tooltip descriptions say almost nothing that would help the player determine whether a skill rune is worth using. Likewise there are no training dummies to help you experiment with creating a viable build.

so go look at your damage on one of your diablo 3 characters then go look at the boss hp pool on a tier 150 greater rift boss. its not apples and oranges at all, its arpgs and there are rifts and this expectation that you should be able to beat the highest possible rift is something that has been set by the game releasing with 2 bugged skills, BE and WG that let people beat these rift tiers with fairly garbage gear and half baled builds. that has set an expectation bar for what builds should be doing that is unrealistic and diablo 3 is a perfect example of a game with a similar rift system where no one expects their builds to clear the top rift solo, they dont even expect them to clear the top 20 tiers of rifts in most cases.

with good gear a crit ailment caster can clear tier 151 rifts fairly quickly, i think thats fine, i dont see why anyone should expect their characters to be going into the 180s.

I agree with you on this.

Furthermore, the way I see it, there are still many balance issues with the game that let players mow though content way faster than they should. My personal opinion is that the game needed much more testing and balancing before official launch.

Going back to the Diablo 3 example, the first time greater rifts ware made available, LVL50 was considered hard to get to and would take a lot of grinding, perfected gear and perfected build to get there. Build, systems and gear are completely different between games, but the overall rift system structure is mostly the same.

Why people think they should be able to do almost max level content after a couple weeks with unperfected builds and not optimum gear is beyond me. With proper balancing, setbacks in power level are to be expected. What balancing means is that every viable build should be able to get by the same level of content. What this level should be and how much griding it is needed to get there is still up to debate. Nerfing some, or buffing all the others is playing with the "maximum numbers" achievable.

Nevertheless, I would suggest a Public Test Realm (PTR), like in Diablo 3. It would help ease the tweaking and nerfing outrage feelings of the community. The game nows feels much like a PTR to me. If something is taken from you, even if you know deep inside you should not have it, still hurts.
