When you equip an item with socketed life gems it lowers your life...

you have to unequip the item, unsocket the gems, equip the armor and socket the gems...
but when you unequip the armor and equip it again, it lowers your life again...

so you have to unequip, unsocket, equip the item and socket the gems again.
