Pets stop attacking after a kill or 2 while there is npcs on the screen. They wont attack the npcs that you target at range. While in co op the pets Livor mortis , minion swarm or plague swarm wont keep up with your char and wont attack at all. In Co-op play chars bounce around and skip.
