dont know the location of the file but i think your character data is corrupt, hopefully @CM Calesitaen (forgive if typt wrong) have you tried a new character as well?

@Shizukana08 yes, I have tried to create a new character multiple times, to no avail.

I already did that (the integrity file check) before posting this thread, and nothing changed

My game settings are the default settings.
I play from Lebanon in the Middle-East.
And here is exactly what is going on:
-I create a character online
-I log into the game
-I cannot skip any of the cut scenes whatsoever
-Once the cut scenes are over I can move my character around, and I am give a quest to talk to Maelys.
-I go over to Maelys (no other Edric and Val are not around)
-I talk to Maelys for the quest and she says her line.
-After I talk to Maelys I cannot click on the any of the two ladders, and Edric and Val are still not around and they do not go up the ladder.
-Maelys still has the quest mark (shiny star?) above her head, and if I talk to her again she will say her line again.
-And again nothing happens.

Unfortunately I cannot provde a footage of this because I do not know of any recording software, if you can point me in the direction of where I can download a free one, I would be happy to do it.

Note: when playing in offline mode everything seems to be working fine (apart from few bugs I encountered) but I was able to play through Act 1 of the story and unock soldier of fortune and reaching level 20.

I've redownlaoded the game (haven't played in a long time perhaps a year or more?), created a character and arrived at the same issue. Can't progress any further.

just got the game today and running into the same issues as well. No problems in offline mode, online mode yields the same bug - unable to complete the quest "Talk to Maelys" your NPC friends aren't present either like they are offline. I can click on Maelys and get her dialogue but im unable to complete the quest, the ladder doesnt light up, nothing. This is a pretty huge bug for a game going retail very soon.

I have the same problem.

I just bought the game. First thing I encounter is that after I talk to Maelys, nothing happens. The quest still says to talk to Maelys. Not the greatest impression being stuck in less than a minute play time.

I tried to re-install it from Steam. Also did a integrity check of the Steam files, to no success. Tried to create numerous new characters, to also no success. Spent more time trying this game to work, than actually playing it......

I bought a game yesterday and until this moment canot play it. Have same problems. I want my money back.

Hi, I'm bumping the page since i have the same issue, the online server just came back i guessed it may be because of that but it seem the bug is older.

I have the same issue. I cannot go up the ladder in Act 1.

Is anyone found a solution?

i logged in today with the same character and it worked, i don't know if it was patch or I'm just lucky but the game is really good

Same problem here - deleted and reinstalled the game, even on two different PC's, still not working!
Kind of sucks to not be able to play the game online, exspecially since i was supporting since alpha...

I am having the same issue. Exactly as described above. Can't proceed through the first quest. I am beginning to lose my patience. Please help, so I don't have to get a refund. Thanks.
