I have tried to completed a 3 level mandate 6 times today. I have only been able to complete any of them twice due to a freeze. The game just stops. I can run around and attack things, but it does nothing and nothing else moves. The game doesn't disconnect (lord knows I know the difference given how many times I've DC'ed)

There is a known issue with the following AMD FX-Processors (could be others as well):
A bug causes 100% drive utilization resulting in disconnects (online mode) or crashes every few seconds/minutes. If you have this type of CPU the current work around is launching the game using Nvida's cloud-gaming service GeforceNOW - https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce-now/
The first 90 days are free when you sign up using your CC or Paypal info. I know it's not ideal but it will get you playing the game sooner (without crashes/disconnects/freezes) until the devs can fix the issue.

also experienced this since the patch 1.0.4, cant finish any expedition.
fixed mine by removing my unique belt, the one with "100% chance to apply mark of impurity on hit". figured that item was making me dIsconnect/freeze when i use bleeding edge on large group of enemies.
try removing some items/passives with complicated on hit effects maybe it will work

I had Arms maester(proud reprisal) in passive tree but when I removed it my game now finally works like it use to do!!! simple fix and if you´re lucky u got the same problem as me.
