I'm having trouble understanding why this attack isn't considered a projectile attack but Flight of Gaavinar is. They are essentially the same except that one spins in a circle while the other is shot straight forward. Since the axes are spinning through space on their own they are technically projectiles.

On top of it you have a rune that increases the "projectile speed" of the skill ^^.

It's a bugger that's for sure, but frankly it's better this way. Bleeding Edge is way overpowered right now. Just imagine if you could increase the number of projectiles on top of that.
