Movement, Basic Attacks, and Pistol+Shield Characters

I am currently playing a pistol and shield "shotgun" character. The weapon type is really unique and fun, but the movement is maddening. If I left click over an enemy well outside of my shotgun range, the character will sometimes stop and fire off a shot anyway at absolutely nothing. This is not the enemy moving away from me, they are on the edge of the screen, clearly out of range.

It doesn't seem to happen every time, but more than enough to make playing the character frustrating as hell when it decides to be a problem.

Overall, the movement in this game really needs to be looked at. ARPGs should feel fluid and intuitive with as little need to precisely aim your movement inputs (other than dodging monster mechanics, of course) as possible. It feels like a needless thing to fight against.

I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but my solution for now was to rebind "forced movement" from LCTRL to something more comfortable (I chose F and switched my aspects to A).
