Dodge or Block - Which is considered first

Hi,

So my question is: If you have a build with both dodge and block chance, which is considered first when an enemy attacks you?

In my mind it would make sense that dodge is first, because if a successful dodge occurs, the entire damage and effects of the hit would be ignored. After would come block, as this would result in a calculation to see how much damage you would take, regardless whether you block or not. Even with 100% in block and efficiency, and with no cap on this, a calculation would still have to be done to determine a 0 damage outcome? After this would come any other calculations like damage reduction etc?

Is anyone is able to provide an order that these stats are considered in?

The reason I ask, is because there are a number of passives activated when you block or dodge, and the order that these things happen in, would have quite an effect on their usefulness in a build that has both block and dodge as defenses. Branded burst and tenet stacks are one example. If block went first, you would be constantly getting hit, even if you blocked, and therefore your tenet stacks would always be low or 0, compared to if dodge was considered first.

Hope this makes sense. Any help greatly appreciated.

I agree that it would make sense for dodge or hit to be the first thing calculated when being struck, then block chance calculated afterwards, but i don't actually know for sure if that is the order. Did you just spec into the branded burst node? That passive is really good and seems like the best defense from passive nodes against high spike damage, like those from the rift bosses' most powerful attacks. There is also the belligerent banner node for blocking but we lose all of it's points when we do block, which seems harsh. They should change that node to lose only 1 fortress point when blocking i.m.o.
Which passive activates when dodging? I have not noticed any nodes like that yet and i started leveling a new rogue-type character that i would like to have as high a dodge chance as possible.

Hi,

The most notable on dodge effects are Branded burst Tenet stacks and Siege Breaker Salvatory Anchor & elevated gains. It's mainly that there are separate on hit and on block effect, and working out the order allows for the planning of whether or not some of these are worth taking, or how much their effectiveness is diminished or not based on the order that things happen in.

You could Try out. Get 100% block and as much dodge as possible. Get hit by a mob and see if it says block or dodge.
