Offline Character disappeared

I thought the problems were restricted to the Online servers.
Was going to play my lvl 60 Rogue offline while the servers don't come back up and poof... he's gone.

Is anyone else losing Offline characters as well?

I had the same issue.
I closed the game, turned off steam cloud saving, restarted steam and my char reappeared.
Try it, can't hurt anything. Please update if this works and can help other players as well.

Thanks man. It didn't work, probably because by the time I tried that, I had already created another character and played it, so the local save file had already been overwritten without the old character, but thanks anyway.

No worries. Until the bugs are ironed out of the game, I suggest saving copies of your save file. Its located in

" (drive):\Users\User name\Saved Games\wolcen\savegames "

Save a backup somewhere on your desktop just in case.

I have the same problem, after the patch today my offline character is not showing up anymore.
The files are still in the savegame folder, and I have taken a backup of them.

Same for me, since this update my offline characters dissapeared from screen, files are still in too

Something to try with your backup. (Remember that "Player chest and player data" is important as well.) Let me know if this works.

Delete the savegame in the folder. Open Wolcen and start a new char, Use the same name.

Exit and make sure the new char shows in the char list.

Exit the game, and delete the save again.

Now place a copy of your backup in that folder and start the game.

Im no dev or anything, but I figure sooner or later other people will run into this as well, and if we can figure out a temp solution, we can save a lot of frustration until its patched. Also, make sure you are in OFFLINE mode, top right corner. If it switched to ONLINE, your char will not be there.

Tested a bit around now.
Did not directly test the method you mentioned (Not the same name) But discovered that the game does not save offline characters anymore.
No new saveprofile for my new character showed up.

First I tried to make a character without starting it on the story, did not show up.
Second I tried playing till Stormfall city and activation the "teleport"
Exited the game, and no savefile. Started the game and there where no offline character to choose.

Seems to be a problem with saving the characters, a bit annoying if I have to reinstall the game because I don't have good internet.

Hope this can be fixed soon as I mainly play offline. My character that went missing had completed the story and was doing endgame.

I'm going to troll around in the files a little bit and see if there's anything that points to the save directory. Have you tried running in administrator mode to see if that creates a save file? Im setting a link for a test char that I created and edited to screw around with the save files. Maybe it will help you, and check to see if it deletes the save. Id also make sure that cloud save in steam is off.

Update: Nothing looks sketchy, but then again I'm not a programmer... But there are some interesting client side settings you can edit... I started running Wolcen in Admin mode and I haven't gotten a crash yet. Before I set it to Admin, I'd randomly crash to the crash reporting tool during expeditions.

I'll try to run the game as administrator when I get home from work.
I also have been poking around the files to see if there is any file paths or similar that have changed, but I have not found anything as of yet.

Edit: I tried to run the game with administrator rights, but my offline character did not show up this time either. In the process of checking the game integrity will update of how that turns out
Edit2: Found 1 file, but seemed to be nothing as it downloaded 0/0 bytes. And no change in what happend in game.
Edit3: Tried the your save file. Did not show up - The game did not delete the file either.
Steam cloud save have been off the entire time of this testing, and a bit before.

What bothers me the most is that we don't even know if the devs are aware, or working on something about that problem, a short life sign would be greatly appreciated. Currently with the online constant disconnect and the impossibility to save offline, how are we supposed to play? The worst is that everything worked fine for me before that last update.

I'm not sure what other ideas I have at this point. It just doesn't make sense to me. Have you tried reinstalling the game? As much as it sucks, I don't know what other options there are as of right now considering were at the mercy of waiting for the patch.

I have not had the char disappear since my issue with steam save cloud.

I'm quite sure the devs are aware. They look through this forum, and there are a lot of posts about this issue. They don't respond to all of the posts because it would take away from everything else. You have to remember, it's a fairly small dev team.

"And yes, I do read every message on our main forums, even If I can’t always respond." Coming right from Alan.

It is terrible that patches come out once a week considering there are a lot of game breaking bugs, but from what I've been reading, the weekly updates are out of their control. I do think that the game was released from alpha a little too quickly, considering there are so many game breaking bugs, and not even including the multiplayer aspect. I'm happy enough playing solo for now. But even with my char not disappearing, I keep crashing in expeditions, maybe 1 out of every 8 I run. I have items that just magically unequip themselves and take off somewhere into the nether, never to be seen again. The game will get there. We all have to remember that we are playing a game that is in Beta and this is part of the ironing the game out. There's a lot of great concepts in this, that in time will make this a lot of fun to play. I mean, after I finished campaign, I feel like it's left open for expansions.

All we can really do at this point is keep working on helping each other and see what we can remedy on our end. Us finding fixes and work arounds actually will help the devs in finding the issues and fixing them quicker. We just have to stay active here and continue to try and help everyone with our ideas.

I have this problem on my desktop PC, but noticed yseterday, that on my laptop everything is fine. Its fully patched too.
I reinstalled Wolcen on my desktop PC but nothing changed.
I deleted the user folder of wolcen in %user&/saved games and even though I reinstalled the game, it is not recreated anymore. That makes clear, that offline characters are gone.

Any idea how I could make Wolcen create and use the userfolder again?

Created: 4 years, 6 months ago

Maybe try uninstalling and clearing everything in the registry that is related to Wolcen. I found 15 entries when I did a quick search.

All my chars are still good and saving. I have no issues on my desktop. Posting specs.

This will probably work. Not doing anything until they patch this though. Probably something the patch did because they had problems with people that use other letters in there windows userprofle name than English.
Viable solution for people unable to wait for a patch though! :)

Edit: This does work! Tested just to be sure, deleted the files again though. In hope this will be fixed, there is a reason I don't save files on my C:\ drive.
