Nah they didnt nerf him hard.
So what build are you using ?
I case you use an ailment build there is no hard fight in the campaign.
In case you use Ailments he was dead in seconds in any patch.
Stacking 2 different Ailments kills everything in the Campaign in a matter of 20-30 Seconds.
Things that made the boss hard were
1.) Many of the nodes such as spelldamage not working before 1.0.5
2.) Using ineffective skills (Some skills in this game are simply a lot better than others)
Things that will trivialise everything in the campaign no matter the patch
-> stacking 2 different ailments
When i first did fight the Boss i was using a 1handed weapon and this Anvil Hammer skill
My passive tree was mainly crit damage and %Life nodes
Fight was pretty hard but doable.
My hammer did ~ 1400 damage on hit but i was constantly trying to surive so i did only get in a few hits every now and then
2nd Playthrough i used a mage and stacked Fire and poison ailments using fireball.
Passive tree everything in ailments and in casting speed
Fight went like this
Phase 1: brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr dead
Phase 2 brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr dead
Phase 3 brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr shield + fire invulnerable phase -> jump into fire circle brrrrrrrrrr -dead
fight did last about 1 minute....
I had 1900 damage ticks per 0,6 seconds from ailments.....while i could run away in circles without being in any danger.
When he is down to ~ 50% health in 3rd phase he will go in the middle of the arena and get invulnerable for a few seconds covering in shields.
after this phase ends he will throw a fire cirlce that 1hits you unless u heavily invested in toughness.
However you can just jump directly into it and it will do 0.zero damage
