This button is the "quick attack". Every time you use a melee attack weapon, this skill is activated passively every "x" seconds, making you get close to the enemy in a short distance.

I play as an melee character and had it never activated.

It was way better after i activated that button. As a fighter you are sprinting at opponents every 4 seconds when you left-click on them and it feels smoother to play.

Didn't try it with range and mage chars though.
