Same issue here. Steam did authenticate once, but then wouldn't connect to a game. Keeps pushing to offline and steam won't authenticate now. Also trying to reinstall.

Installing is a bit excessive as failing to authenticate just means that the Servers are being over-indundated by requests for login credentials. It is basically being DDOS'd it sounds like. Uninstalling should just be a waste of time on your sides.

Does anyone know if we create Offline characters that these can then go online? Or are they seperate?

Oh and honestly, calm down people. It has been live for 20minutes and its a little shakey right now - give them a few minutes to sort it out.

i got one step forward, now the friendlist retrieval is failing and as such i cant play online mode

Imagine playing an early access game's launch and expecting it to work perfectly from the start. Everyone needs to calm down, the game got a lot of coverage in the past few weeks and servers are flooded.

okay, so next time a company launches a new game i'll just need to make sure i check in only a few days after launch, cause its perfectly normal, that you have difficulties connecting to a game on launch day :)))

I get the message that there is a newer game version - have to restart the game. Didnt help.

offline chars 110% cannot be used online, think about it for a second, when the character data is stored out of the authors control i.e. offline, you can do all sorts of evil things with it, and then bring it back online.
update now i managed to get to "failed to retreive player data".
mabbe i really shudda just waited a few days, but after 2 years of wait i tend to get a little excited :)

My guess, is that they got overwhelmed by the amount of players. If you look at Twitch, over 62,000 viewers, could be more or less for player count. My guess, the servers couldn't handle it, as I don't think they had anywhere near half that volume during beta. Sure, hopes were high, but at the same time, this is a VERY SMALL team. Do understand, I am 100% sure they're working in overdrive right now to fix everything as quickly as possible.

This is silly, i have half a mind to just get a refund.

It humors me how the gaming community thinks thats its acceptable for a game to launch and you cant even play it.

reinstalling does nothing. They are saying that so you spend 2 hours reinstalling to help with their tiny servers
